CBSE Class 10

▲CONCEPT

This paper asks two kinds of answer from you: descriptive answers of a set length, and a fast objective opener where a wrong guess costs nothing. The board publishes the sample paper and marking scheme for every subject before the exam. Get those points, and write every practice answer against them, point for mark. About half the paper asks you to apply the idea to a case or a data set the textbook never showed you, so you’re working at apply-and-analyse, not recall. The by-heart part — formulae, definitions, dates, the labelled diagram — is still there, but it’s your floor, not your paper. The pace is slow, so match your time to the marks on offer. Run your season from day one, sample paper on your desk.

Your pass line is drawn twice over — once for the written paper, once for internal assessment — and neither one covers for the other, so set your target subject by subject, not as one number for the year. You also get a second sitting, for a few subjects you choose to retake. Treat it as a one-month run rather than a second campaign, aimed only at those subjects, with your own first-sitting paper as the map. The numbers behind all this — the split, the pass marks — sit in the box below, and the board is the one that changes them.

Open this year’s CBSE Class 10 sample paper and marking scheme, for one subject you take. Answer the four questions from them: what form, what the marker pays for, what a miss costs, how many minutes each question gets. Write the four answers down — that page, not this chapter, is what your season is planned against.

The sample paper is just one paper. My real exam is the whole syllabus, not that one sample.

The syllabus lists topics; the sample paper shows the shape those topics arrive in — what form, what the marker pays for, what a miss costs, how fast. The board publishes it so that the shape is known before the day; the topics change, the shape is what you practise in. Read the sample paper and its scheme once, closely, and every practice answer has a target. Skip it, and every practice answer you write is aimed at a guess.

CBSE Class 10: check the current notice

As read on 14 September 2026 in the board’s own documents: the Secondary Curriculum for 2026–27, section 3.1, on cbseacademic.nic.in, and the notification of 25 June 2025 on cbse.gov.in. The box holds the numbers; the board changes them, the shape does not. Confirm in the current notice: whether a wrong option loses marks, each subject’s own section split, and the date sheet.
