Cost and Management Accountant (Foundation, Inter, Final)

▲CONCEPT

Nearly everything you write here is a descriptive answer, and the marker reads it with a published scheme beside them, paying only for the points that scheme names. Some papers in the same stage also carry a shorter objective section, testing the same syllabus in a shorter form.

So the job is narrow: get the scheme, answer to it point by point, and show working wherever the subject asks for working. Write around the scheme and you can fill a page and earn nothing from it. On the objective section, whether a wrong pick costs you anything is set by your own stage’s current notice — until you have read it and know, attempt every item rather than leave one blank. The institute states the exact numbers, and the box says where to find them.

CMA comes in three stages — Foundation, Intermediate, Final — and you clear them one at a time. Each stage holds you to a floor twice over: paper by paper, and again across that stage’s papers together. Clearing Foundation well buys you nothing at Intermediate; you start that floor from scratch.

That changes how you plan. Set your target again at the start of each stage instead of carrying one number for the whole qualification, and run each stage as its own season rather than treating the qualification as one long push. Before you plan an attempt, read that stage’s current notice for the objective share, the penalty rule and the floors. The box below could not confirm a single one of those numbers, so go to the institute for them.

Take one paper from your current stage. Answer one descriptive question against the clock, then mark it point by point against the current scheme rather than by how complete it feels. Separately, attempt five objective items from the same paper at speed, and note how each one felt to answer.

I cleared Foundation comfortably, so surely Intermediate should feel about the same.

Each stage sets its own floor, paper by paper and in aggregate, and clears independently of the one before it — a comfortable Foundation says nothing about Intermediate’s own papers. Treat every stage as a fresh season: reset your target, and read that stage’s own current notice before you plan around it, since the objective share and the floors are the institute’s to set stage by stage, not once for the whole qualification.

Cost and Management Accountant: check the current notice

Attempted on 14 September 2026 to read the Institute of Cost Accountants of India’s own examination documents at icmai.in and icmai.co.in. The pages returned no readable pattern text. No number below is confirmed; the box stays empty until the institute’s own documents are read. Confirm in the current notice: the objective share and any penalty in each stage’s papers, and the pass mark and aggregate rule. Also confirm paper duration, how often each stage is held with the current dates, and the current syllabus.
