Banking: IBPS, SBI, RBI
Most public-sector banks recruit through the common Institute; the State Bank and the Reserve Bank run their own posts separately. All three put you through the same shape: a screen, then a longer written paper mixing choice-among-options questions with connected prose, then a personality-and-interview stage. Both the screen and the written paper penalise a wrong pick, so the same eliminate-to-guess arithmetic applies to each.
The prose section is a skill you build like any long answer — business and current-affairs themes, a letter format, an essay format, drilled daily against a model, not crammed the night before. The close is not one conversation: expect a self-report profile, sometimes a group exercise, then the interview, so rehearse for more than a question-and-answer script.
Here is the one exception: the written stage never lets a strong section carry a weak one — each timed section needs to clear its own floor, not only the paper’s total. That flips your practice priority — get every section past its floor first, then push the total, the opposite instinct from a paper marked on aggregate alone. Start your prose bank early, and treat the interview as only the last of several closing tools. The section list and the floor for each one sit in the current notice’s own scheme paragraph, set fresh every recruitment cycle — the box below names what is still to confirm.
Open the current notice for the post you are targeting. Find the scheme paragraph and write down the clearing score set for each section of the written stage, separately. Circle the section you are weakest in. That is where your season’s practice starts, not the section you already find easiest.
My total score is usually well past the cut-off, so I feel safe even if one section is weak.
A comfortable total can still be rejected if one timed section falls under its own clearing score — the paper does not average across sections. That feeling of safety is measuring the wrong thing. Drill the weak section to its own floor first, then let the total take care of itself.
Banking (IBPS/SBI/RBI): check the current notice
As read on 14 September 2026 in the recruiters’ own documents. IBPS’s CRP PO/MT-XVI notification, dated 01.07.2026, and its CRP CSA-XVI notification, dated 01.08.2026, both on ibps.in. SBI’s Advertisement CRPD/PO/2026-27/09, dated 18.06.2026, on sbi.co.in. The box holds the numbers; each recruiter changes its own, the shape does not. Confirm in the current notice: the Reserve Bank’s own Grade B notification, not read for this box, so none of its facts are stated above. Also confirm the vacancy count and sectional cut-offs for the current IBPS and SBI cycles.
