Decode your own state PSC

▲CONCEPT

Every state runs its own commission, with its own notification, its own syllabus and its own scheme — there is no single method that covers all of them, so this entry teaches you how to build your own. Read against Madhya Pradesh’s and Bihar’s commissions, the two actually checked for this entry, and the shape held in both: a penalised choice-among-options screen used only to shortlist you, then connected prose marked to a published scheme across several papers, then an interview. Both commissions name a second, more detailed syllabus document, published separately from the notification itself.

That is the habit worth building: go looking for the second document, not the notice alone. Your state’s paper count, language rules, reservation rules and dates differ — none of it guessable from another’s notice. Read your own commission’s notification, then its syllabus document, both off its site, never a summary. The four questions apply stage by stage: form, what the marker pays for, what a miss costs, pace. The two commissions read here sit in the box below; yours is a third.

Find your own state’s public service commission notification and its separate syllabus document. Answer the four questions stage by stage from them: what form, what the marker pays for, what a miss costs, the pace. Write the three sets of answers down. That page plans your season, not a guide written for a different state.

One state PSC reads much like another, so a guide to the biggest one should cover mine well enough.

The shape repeats across commissions, but the paper count, the language rules and the dates do not, and none of those transfer from a bigger state’s guide. Read your own commission’s notification and its separate syllabus document directly. A guide can decode the shape for you; only your own commission can tell you what fills it.

State PSCs: check the current notice

As read on 14 September 2026 in two state commissions’ own documents. Madhya Pradesh’s advertisement, dated 31.12.2025, on mppsc.mp.gov.in, and Bihar’s notification, dated 05.05.2026, on bpsc.bihar.gov.in. The box holds the numbers for these two; your commission changes its own, and the shape does not. Confirm in the current notice: your own state’s commission and notification, since neither of these two may be yours. Also confirm the marks, paper count and cut-offs, in a separate syllabus document each commission names. Uttar Pradesh’s own notification could not be read for this box.
